Statement of Aims

The aim of the course is to train any person required to carry out the duties of a first aider at work.

Course Structure

On successful completion of the course the participants will be able to carry out the duties of a first-aider as noted in the relevant statutory provisions. The course consists of theory and practical exercises and is assessed by sitting a multiple choice question paper and practical examination. The pass mark is 75% overall with a course ratio of one instructor to 10 trainees. Expiry date of certificate is 3 years onto which a refresher course is required.

Fractures, sprains, strains and dislocations
Crush, spinal and abdominal injuries
Hypothermia
First aid boxes, contents and refilling
Riddor and record keeping
Personal hygiene, aids and hepatitis B
Revision
Practical and theoretical examination
